If you’ve booked your first laser hair removal session in Chandigarh and you’re not sure what to expect, you’re in good company. Most first-timers are nervous – about pain, the process, results. Here’s exactly what happens, from walking in to walking out.
Before Your Session: Preparation
- Shave the area 24 hours before – not wax, thread or depilate. The hair shaft needs to be present below the skin surface for the laser to target
- Avoid sun exposure for 4 weeks before – tanned skin can cause pigmentation issues
- No retinoids, AHAs, or exfoliants for 48 hours before on the treatment area
- Come with clean, product-free skin – no creams, deodorant or makeup on the area
During the Session: What You’ll Feel
The technician will apply a cool gel to the treatment area (or use a laser with a built-in cooling tip). Then the laser handpiece is pressed against the skin and pulses are delivered in a grid pattern across the area.
The sensation is often described as:
- A rubber band snap or pinch
- A brief warm or stinging feeling
- A slight smell of singed hair (this is normal – it’s the follicle being destroyed)
Pain levels vary by area. Upper lip and bikini areas tend to be more sensitive than underarms or legs. Most women find it very manageable. No anaesthesia is required for most areas.
Session Duration
- Upper lip: 5–10 minutes
- Underarms: 10–15 minutes
- Bikini: 15–20 minutes
- Full legs: 45–60 minutes
- Full back: 30–45 minutes
After the Session: What to Expect
Immediately after treatment, the skin may look pink or slightly raised (like mild sunburn). This is normal and settles within a few hours to 1–2 days.
- In the first 48 hours: Avoid heat (hot showers, saunas, gym), direct sun, and perfumed products on the area
- Hairs fall out over 2–3 weeks: You may see hairs appearing to grow – they are actually being pushed out. Don’t wax them
- Apply SPF 50: Daily for the first 4 weeks after treatment to prevent pigmentation
- Moisturise: Aloe vera gel or a fragrance-free moisturiser soothes the area
Results: What to Expect After Each Session
After each session, you should notice a reduction in hair density. Progress is gradual – some women see dramatic reduction from session 2, others take until session 4–5 to notice significant change. Be consistent with your treatment intervals for the best results.
